DCE FOR CENTRAL GONJA DISTRICT CALLS ON THE SECURITY SERVICE TO HELP FIGHT ROBBERY IN THE AREA.

Following an upsurge in armed robbery cases in recent times in the Central Gonja District in the northern region, the DCE, Hon Mustapha Mahama convened a public forum under the auspices of the District Security Council (DISEC) to reassure the people of his commitment to find a lasting solution to the menace.

The forum was held yesterday 22-10-2018 at the BUIPE Central Market which coincided with its market day.

This was aimed at briefing residents and traders alike on measures leadership was putting in place to curb this canker and also to advise them on matters of personal security and safety.

In his welcoming speech, the DCE expressed his delight over the enthusiasm with which residents had taken seriously this matter of security by foregoing their busy schedules just to be here.

He briefed the gathering on plans he had to eliminate this unfortunate phenomenon.

Hon Mustapha Mahama further expressed his worries about the rampant attacks on traders in his District and that these individuals who are perpetrating those crimes are not supper human, they are like them.

“If they say they will not allow my people to trade in Buipe and other markets such as Mpaha, Mankpan and others in the district, we too will not allow them to sleep”.

“I must be quick to add that we are not going to leave any stone unturned. We shall bring these criminals to their knees”.

However, he has appealed to the people of Central Gonja to do all endeavors to report or inform traditional authorities these individuals in our various communities.

In his remarks, the District Police Commander expressed his concern over how drivers often rejected the offer of police escorts claiming it was needless.

He urged drivers to collaborate with the police for effective security delivery.

He also appealed to residents to divulge information to the police on any suspicious characters they found in their various communities since these criminals live with them.

He assured them the police will always protect their anonymity and will never disclose their informants to the public.

The Northern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Timothy Yoosah in his address, said he was happy to hear the strategies that the District Police Commander has mentioned but was of the view that they need to restrategize their measures and calculations. He has assured the people of Central Gonja District for their effective and efficient service collaboration to the district hence to end the armed robbery cases in the district.

The Branch manager Mr Hanson Addison for ADB-Buipe also used the occasion to make a clarion call on traders to make good use of the banking facility and avoid carrying huge sums of money on them as this was a motivation for attacks.

He emphasized that ADB was a reliable bank with proper governing structures and as such their deposits were safe and could be retrieved at anytime they needed it.

The Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II expressed his outrage at the incessant robbery attacks visited on his subjects and vowed to deal ruthlessly with anyone who will be caught.

He explained that traditionally, as a chief, he wasn’t expected to be in the market but the gravity of the matter at hand compelled him to do so.

He swore to do everything possible to protect his subjects, and therefore will collaborate with the DCE and security to make sure armed robbery becomes a thing of the past in the district.
